WHY WE FILM

One session, audio and visuals.

For 10 years, we’ve obsessed over how LOSTOSC sounds. Now we’ve done the same for how it looks. Why?

We’ve learned a strange truth: getting a world class recording of a great song is no longer the most expensive, or the most important, part of getting a song heard.

Every modern musician has seen beautifully made records disappear into the void because of a lack of supporting visuals. We’ve also seen the memes: “imagine telling [insert sensitive genius from history] that they need to make ‘content’ 🤮.” Look, we didn’t make these rules. But, we do want to help you play the game.

So: after a year of experimenting and building out our beloved studio for filming with cinema grade cameras and lighting, we’re offering something we wish had existed when we needed it: recording sessions captured beautifully, both audio and visual, in one go.

You leave the studio with great visuals of your actual performance, ready to support the release and feed your socials. And it might cost less than you’d imagine. Most premium services are more expensive than they look. Filming with us is just the opposite.

Why it works (and why it’s good value)

The magic is the efficiency.

You’re already here, playing your best takes, in a great sounding room, through a great signal chain. Adding cameras to that moment costs a fraction of what a separate shoot would, and the results are infinitely more real, human, and compelling. They also happen to sync up exactly to the studio recording…

We know budgets are tighter than ever and that it is painful creating visuals and cynical social content to get your music out there. So we developed this approach. Instead of recording your music and then considering “right, now what do I do about visuals?”, you can solve it in the set up, and leave LOSTOSC with both.

An idea of what we can capture

Live session films. We can capture ‘KEXP style’ performance videos here: your band, live in the room, filmed and recorded, to release standard.

Studio session content. This is our sweet spot. Cameras seamlessly integrate into your recording sessions, capturing the moments that become the music. We can sync this to the recording to create full videos, social clips, and everything in between.

Interviews and spoken content. For most artists, even capturing a little talking-head content for your socials while you’re in the studio makes sense. Anything that benefits from high fidelity audio and visuals that match.

Beautiful B-roll and “narrative” shoots. Again, super useful for social media content and as part of a more traditional ‘music video’.

The details

We shoot on Sony FX30 cinema cameras, with a full range of Nanlite professional lighting options, so we can shape the look to suit you: clean and polished, moody and downlit, or anywhere in between. We film in S-Log3, 4k, high fps – producing files that can be aggressively graded, or easily incorporated into existing visual projects.

We shoot gimbal, static, cage, single or multi angle depending on the project.

We’ve worked hard to make the space, gear and workflow flexible so that you can focus on nailing the take.

Every project is bespoke, collaborative, and luxuriously high-end. We bring it all: audio engineering, music production, videography and editing.

Tell us what you want to make and we’ll handle the rest.

How this started

Engineers Dave & Jack were trying to solve this problem for their own band! When Slow Karma recorded, we’d hire videographers to film the recording session so that we’d have visuals to promote the music. We spent a small fortune, worked with some incredible people, learned loads, and developed a workflow. Over time, we got increasingly interested in the film side of things, and so brought more and more of the process in house.

Eventually, other artists started asking, “can you do that for us too?”

So we invested. Properly. Our audio signal chain has been dialled in for more than a decade, and we’ve put in the graft to bring the visuals up to that standard. Before opening this up to everyone, we honed the process with our own band, some close friends and ‘frequent fliers’ to work out any kinks.

It turns out we love making video, and the workflow we’ve honed running studio sessions translates beautifully to filming them.
